"I wanted to express my feelings about Gaza in my art, but I felt there was little point in competing with the photographic record. Yet as a painter, I could take a longer view. I created a timeline of Palestine, referencing the earliest artifacts, the ancient olive groves, the British role and finally the leveling of Gaza. As in the visual language of scientific illustration, each stage is described by text, in this case verses of poetry. The  style is objective, but the aim is emotional -  to generate recognition of the deplorable history of Gaza and to create sympathy for the hunted victims of persecution."
