“Sweet Climate Grief” is a textile piece with three endangered species from New England; the Short Eared Owl, the Northern Long Eared Bat, and the Barren’s Tiger Beetle. This is a piece that is a part of a larger series called “Sweet Climate Grief” holding softness both in hand by way of a soft cotton textile, and heart, the anguish of current loss and future nostalgia.
The project is meant to bring the reality of loss to the forefront of conversations, to remember that grief is within, not just something far away, that endangered species are here with us now, not just off in the distance as beings which we can talk about as if foreign and imagined.
In our society, grief in all it’s varieties, tends to be pushed away, looked away from, rejected, repulsed, this project asks us to softly turn our attention toward grief and recon with the complexity of grief."
