This is Digitalis lanata, a beautiful and highly toxic flowering plant that produces Digoxin, which is used to treat heart conditions. While its usage for heart arrhythmia wasn't discovered until later, the plant and its cousin Foxglove species have been used medically since at least the late 1700's.
