Heart buddy! Blood pressure, general tonification of the heart. Gently powerful. Associated with fairies in Scotland and Ireland, especially when the tree is standing solitary. There are taboos against the cutting of a hawthorn tree for this reason. Similar practices surround the elder tree in Scandinavia. Hawthorn is very nutritious and considered good to eat when underweight. Because it needs to be decocted (simmered on the stove) I often turn it into a syrup by adding honey, which preserves it a little longer in the fridge.
