"Losing several close family members within a short period of time led to an ongoing process of working to get through each day while carrying the weight of grief. I found connection to centuries old motifs of mourning to be quite comforting. I am not alone in this profound sadness, or in the desire to express it in a way that goes beyond words. “Gone Before” incorporates symbols such as forget-me-not flowers, weeping willow branches, and common antique gravestone motifs from New England such as the hourglass and winged skull."
