In Traditional Chinese Medicine, certain species of wisteria (Wisteria sinensis in particular) have been used. The stem and root bark were sometimes prepared as remedies for: Joint pain and arthritis, digestive issues, abdominal pain, and as a diuretic.
It is important to know that wisteria seeds and pods are toxic and contain lectin and wisterin glycoside, which can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain if ingested.
The flowers are sometimes used in small quantities in Asian cuisine used in a tempura-fried flower.
"To me the most important use for wisteria is the intoxicating fragrance, which has a powerful uplifting effect."
