Athyrium filix-femina, or the Lady Fern, seen in “Take Some Time”: Traditional narratives
associate the plant within enchanted forests and attribute magical properties to its
feather-like leaves. Native American communities utilized it as a medical property to
address intestinal discomfort and parasitic infection; early European herbalists would
come to use it to treat coughs and fevers, as well as apply it to minor wounds.
