"This painting depicts two hands caressing a fireweed blossom. The hands are created from my "scar prints" and placed alongside a fire-resilient northwest native plant. Aptly named, fireweed is one of the first plants to return post-wildfire. The "scar print" is a pattern I print directly from my skin, which was injured in a fire. This embodied act of creation transforms the disfigured body into abstracted prints and subverts the notion of disfigurement as "monstrous," here tying it to an ecological lifecycle of both destruction and regeneration."
