Inspired by the traditional Raider-Waite-Smith card of the same name, this version of "The Lovers" is also inspired by queer love — that of men in the ancient world, in myth and history. A blazing urn, a reference to the burial of the heroes Achilles and Patroclus, lights the sky, while clasped hands twine in the ivy of love everlasting. With a nod to the card's meaning of duality, as well as the seas of Greek myth, the hands of the lovers meet above a waving sea.
