Pacific Bleeding Heart (Dicentra formosa)
Medicinal properties: Bleeding Heart (Dicentra formosa) is native to shady woods in the Pacific Northwest from B.C. down into California. Its dangling heart-shaped flowers bloom from late-March into early-July. Although toxic at the wrong dosage, bleeding heart flowers, leaves and especially roots are used medicinally as an analgesic and sedative to relieve pain and ease anxiety.
