"Titled after the Emily Dickinson poem “Hope is the Thing with Feathers” this body of work examines grief and the loss of hope. In the eighteenth century, birds were symbols of virginity and sexual purity. Dead birds were often used to depict an abrupt, tragic, or violent loss of innocence. Drawing upon these connotations, dead birds are placed alongside shed antlers, bones, teeth, and other paraphernalia of death to comment on the trauma and grief of sexual violence."
