‘Waiting for the Funeral’ is a self portrait about the feelings experienced in the time between a death of a loved one and their funeral. As I painted it, I returned to the time after my mother’s passing. I recalled how it felt like I was standing still but the world inexplicably kept on going. I experienced the feelings again, I looked at them through a mirror, and I painted them into this piece."
