This piece titled “Connection Through Reflection” is part of my Sun and Raven series that was born from grief. This was a different type of loss, what I’ve come to describe as an isolating grief as I lost a patient to suicide. Due to the nature of the relationship and confidentiality, there is no finding comfort in the hugs and embraces of his loved ones, there are no words or stories to recall and share in the days, months, years that follow. Even colleagues who have not experienced that type of loss fall short in understanding, “he was just a patient, move on.” Yet, he was so much more – a father, son, brother, Marine, vulnerable, in pain, and deeply human."
