"My dad and I used to share our Wordles (and laments and jokes about our Wordles) via text every morning, and it was a nice way to stay in touch since we didn't live in the same state. When he started having vision problems in March he suddenly couldn't see well enough to do the Wordle, and by the time we knew that the cause was the extremely rare Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease he wasn't coherent enough to know it, and then he was gone by mid-April. My phone was no longer the portal to him that it had been, and I began creating these familiar, everyday objects and conduits of action and interaction out of cement to capture the immense feeling of loss and inertness that permeates my world in his absence."
