"Roanoke explores grief through family lore surrounding death, estrangement, and tumultuous relationships. Inspired by stories passed down through generations, the painting reflects on the uncertainty of inherited memories, news reports and the emotional weight they carry. The work considers how grief can persist beyond a single loss, living on through stories, unanswered questions, and fractured connections and places. Through Roanoke, I examine how family histories continue to shape our understanding of love, loss, and belonging."
