"The “Re-member” series explores the phases of Research, Retrieval and Re-membering the parts of oneself and their lineage(s) that are often lost during cultural assimilation. The work is a call to Re-member, to become Whole again by reintegrating the aspects of our identity that have been willingly or forcibly removed in response to dominant sociopolitical systems and the pressures of our private, familial and emotional landscapes. Within each piece, elements of human anatomy, text and the natural world combine to reclaim the body as a site of cultural and spiritual recollection. Together, they form a visual narration of the process of repairing a fractured sense of identity, defined as much by grief as expansion.
I drew from these themes in order to bring about my Self portrait, which is as much an illustration of personal mythology as it is a reminder of our ever-evolving state. It is within this contradiction that memory and flesh collide, revealing something new altogether."
