"Gathering Grief" explores my loss and mourning. In 2012, I had nine friends and my mother-in-law die. The following March, my father died. While some of these deaths were expected—and my mother-in-law's passing after a long struggle with Alzheimer's brought a sense of relief—the cumulative weight of so much loss left me paralyzed with grief.
This piece reflects that period in my life. Through the act of making, I found a way to hold, and process my grief. Creating the work became an essential part of navigating my profound loss, honoring those I loved, and coming to terms with my own death.
