"This painting speaks to the sharp grief of parental neglect through poverty, and what it means to release your parent from the expectations to break through that trauma. I went through taping the shape of my mother and then painting our shared trauma over it. I then freed her from that story to leave a blank, stark contrast, an absence in my childhood. attached is the statement that comes with the painting."
