"To me these works represent the grief of something having always been out of reach; like you can see it, and you can see how vibrant and strong they are, but you aren't personally strong enough to reach through the canvas and grasp it for yourself. There is a barrier between you and the object of desire that can never be breached.
As a transgender woman, this takes the form of femininity and the barrier preventing someone from grabbing it. The painting feels ghostly to me, and the grief comes from the knowledge that it isn't moving, and neither are you. The veils do the same; mourning the thing that was never there for you in the first place. I hope that this feeling, or something similar, comes across for you in these works."
