"Galway Shawl, Cardinal is a piece inspired by the passing of my kind grandfather. On the day of his funeral, a grey jay pecked at our window to wake us up. And cardinals flew around the sky. Cardinals, often symbolized as greetings from the afterlife, gave me some peace. The Galway Shawl is a traditional shawl worn in Ireland (and since died out) and is emblematic of "the old ways". We bonded over traditional music, and when I lived in Galway for a bit, he called me his Galway Girl (referencing Steve Earle)."
