"Emberlin was born from a photograph, of the precious ordinary, I made along the Oregon coast during one of our family's last beach trips together before life changed in ways none of us could yet imagine. The image began as a simple record of an ordinary evening. A solitary figure standing between the warmth of the setting sun and the vastness of the Pacific. But memory is rarely documentary. As layers of encaustic gathered over the photograph, certainty dissolved. Wax softened edges the way time softens recollection, allowing something quieter to emerge. What had been a landscape became an emotional one. Living beside Hood Canal has changed the way I understand beauty. Light never stays where it first appears. The tide erases what it has just revealed. Fog blurs the line between presence and absence. Nothing remains fixed, and perhaps that is what makes it precious."
