Nina Alderete lives in Burien, Washington. She holds a B.A. from the University of California Santa Cruz, an M.F.A. in Painting from Central Washington University, and an M.S. from the University of the Pacific. Nina makes small-scale surreal collage paintings in her basement studio that play with layers and depth, stylized composition, and internal personal logic. 

This body of work focuses on intuitive choices. Collaged shapes, colors, and patterns create the structure of the painting. By focusing on materials that build transparency, a blank landscape sets the mood and focuses on the figures. The figures in the painting create the handwritten text followed by a response to the typed text.
