There is a barrier between you and the object of desire that can never be breached.\u003cbr\u003eAs a transgender woman, this takes the form of femininity and the barrier preventing someone from grabbing it. The painting feels ghostly to me, and the grief comes from the knowledge that it isn't moving, and neither are you.
